Longview is a city in Cowlitz County in the southwest of the US state Washington . At the 2000 census it had 34,660 inhabitants. The place is located at the confluence of the Cowlitz River in the Columbia River and shares the eastern city limits with the County Seat Kelso .
history
Longview was the site of Mount Coffin, an aboriginal burial site. The first Europeans settled in the 1850s. In 1921 Wesley Vandercook planned to build a mill near Kelso. As it turned out that the almost 2000 inhabitants were not enough to build the mill, a city planner from St. Louis was commissioned to plan a town. Longview was granted town charter in 1924.

The Lewis and Clark Bridge connects Longview with Rainier , Oregon . It is the only bridge over the Columbia River between Portland and Astoria . The Nutty Narrows Bridge is also in Longview. It is considered the narrowest bridge in the world and is used by squirrels to cross a busy expressway.
