Lorenz Johann von Wiegel

Lorenz Johann von Wiegel (born December 1728 in Livonia ; † January 5, 1794 in Thorn ) was a Prussian major general and the first Prussian commander of Thorn.

Life

Wiegel came in 1743 as a corporal in the infantry regiment "von la Motte" . During the Second Silesian War he took part in the battles of Hohenfriedberg and Soor as well as in the battle near Habelschwerdt . After the war, Wiegel became ensign on February 23, 1747 and second lieutenant on May 30 . During the Seven Years' War he fought in the battles of Lobositz and Prague . He was also wounded near Kolin and Torgau . He also fought in the battles of Neustadt, Holitz, Jauernick and Kuttenberg and also in the sieges of Prague and Neisse. During that time he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on November 10, 1757 and to Staff Captain on May 2, 1762 .

After the war, Wiegel rose to captain and company commander on August 1, 1768 . On May 4, 1778 he became a major and as such took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On May 20, 1787 he became lieutenant colonel , on May 20, 1789 colonel and on August 27, 1789 he was also appointed regimental commander. He also received the order Pour le Mérite . He held the position until May 4, 1793, when he was transferred to Thorn as commandant, which also earned him 1,800 thalers in salary. On May 28, 1793 he also became major general. He died in Thorn on January 5, 1794.

Wiegel was married to Auguste Charlotte von Glasenapp (* 1733; † November 30, 1805), widowed von Weyher. After his death, the widow received a pension of 150 thalers.
