Lorenzo Piretto OP (born December 15, 1942 in Mazzè , Italy ) is an Italian Roman Catholic clergyman and Archbishop of Izmir .

Life

Lorenzo Piretto joined the Dominican Order in Fiesole in 1958 and made perpetual profession on December 16, 1963 . He received on 4 August 1966, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

After further studies, he obtained a degree in theology in Bologna in 1967 and a doctorate in philosophy in Turin in 1972 . From 1967 to 1974 he had a teaching position at the Dominican religious studies in Chieri and then he taught philosophy in Turin. From 1976 to 1983 he was also the novice master in Chieri.

He has been working in Turkey since 1983. He taught Italian at Marmara University from 1986 to 1996 and Latin from 1992 to 2005. In the Order he was prior of the Istanbul Convention from 1987 to 2007 . From 1993 to 2010 he was Provincial of the Order of Turkey and from 2014 Prior of the Convent in Izmir . From 1988 to 2014 he was pastor in Istanbul and from 1992 to 2014 Vicar General of the Apostolic Vicariate Istanbul .

On November 7, 2015, Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Izmir . He received his episcopal ordination on December 19 of the same year.
