Louis-Séverin Haller CanReg (born February 11, 1895 in La Tour-de-Peilz , Canton of Vaud , † July 17, 1987 in Orselina , Canton of Ticino ) was the Roman Catholic Abbot Bishop of Saint-Maurice .

Life

Louis-Séverin Haller joined the order of Augustinian Canons in the Abbey of Saint-Maurice in 1913 after visiting the College in Saint-Maurice (Collège de l'Abbaye de St. Maurice) . In 1914 he made his profession and was ordained a priest on February 25, 1920 after theological studies in Rome and St. Maurice . Haller was initially vicar in Salvan and in 1924 became a teacher at the Italian college of Santa Maria in Pollegio . In 1927 he became director of the business school in Sierre . From 1932 to 1943 Haller was a teacher, chapter secretary, novice master and procurator in Saint-Maurice.

On June 14, 1943, he was elected abbot of the Saint-Maurice Abbey by the Chapter . Pope Pius XII confirmed the election on June 26, 1943 and appointed him titular bishop of Bethlehem . The episcopal ordination on 10 August 1943 received his Archbishop Filippo Bernardini , Apostolic Nuncio in Switzerland; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Sitten, Viktor Bieler , and Bishop Angelo Giuseppe Jelmini , Apostolic Administrator in Lugano. Haller was the first abbot primate of the Confederation of Augustinian Canons from 1959 to 1968 . He was the council father of all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council . His age-related resignation in 1970 by Pope Paul VI. granted.

Louis-Séverin Haller was Grand Prior of the Swiss Lieutenancy of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem from 1962 to 1977.

He has received several awards, including the Order of St. Mauritius and Lazarus and acceptance into the Legion of Honor .
