Louisabeth Röckel , baptized as Elisabethe Louise , also Louisabeth Roeckel , married Louisabeth Mathes-Roeckel (born October 30, 1841 in Weimar , † April 21, 1913 in Kassel ) was a German actress .

Life

She was the daughter of Richard Wagner's friend August Röckel from his marriage to Caroline Lortzing (1809–1871), a cousin of Albert Lortzing . Her grandfather was the opera singer Joseph August Röckel , a friend of Beethoven, the brother-in-law of Johann Nepomuk Hummel .

She was educated in the Sophienstift in Weimar . She received her dramatic lessons from Emil Kaibel and Heinrich Franke , her singing lessons from Hans Feodor von Milde .

She made her debut in Weimar in 1858 in the title role of Heinrich von Kleist's drama Das Käthchen von Heilbronn , from where she made guest tours to Frankfurt am Main , Hanover , Halle , Magdeburg , Cologne , Heidelberg , Berlin and Königsberg . In 1863 she went to the court theater in Schwerin and finally made her debut on April 7, 1866 at the Burgtheater in Vienna , where she was supported in particular by Franz Dingelstedt .

On January 30, 1869, she married the chief inspector of the Kaiser Ferdinands-Nordbahn , Heinrich Mathes, and appeared on stage for the last time on August 31, 1871. On April 1, 1879, she returned to the Burgtheater and worked there for a decade and a half.

Her son Eduard Mathes also devoted himself to the stage.
