Lucas Luis Dónnelly Carey OdeM (born July 29, 1921 in General Cabrera , Province of Córdoba , † August 31, 2012 in O'Higgins , Gran Buenos Aires ) was a Roman Catholic bishop - prelate of Deán Funes .

Life

Lucas Luis Dónnelly was one of six children from the marriage of Nicolás Dónnelly Cardiff and Inés Carey Maguirre. He joined the Mercedarians in 1935 and made his profession on January 8, 1940 . He studied at the order's Instituto de Formación León XIII. in the Villa Rivera Indarte in Cordoba and at the Jesuit Colegio Máximo San José in San Miguel . He was ordained a priest on December 21, 1946 in the Church of the San José Seminary , the diocesan seminary of the Archdiocese of La Plata . On December 25, 1946, he celebrated his first Holy Mass in the La Merced Church in Montevideo , Uruguay . From 1948 to 1951 he completed a doctorate at the Roman Pontifical Gregorian University and was awarded a doctorate theologiae .

He held various religious offices, most recently Professor and Subregens of the Instituto de Formación León XIII. In 1956 he became secretary of the Argentine province of the Mercedarians , shortly afterwards provincial in Argentina and Uruguay. In 1959 he was re-elected for one term. From 1963 to 1968 and from 1970 to 1973 he was Superior of the Convento de La Merced in Córdoba. From 1970 to 1973 he was also pastor of the La Merced parish in La Rioja. In 1973 he became rector of the Instituto de Formación León XIII. appointed and re-elected in 1976. In 1976, Raúl Francisco Cardinal Primatesta , the Archbishop of Córdoba, appointed him as Vice-Assessor of the Movimiento Círculos de Juventud . In 1979 he was elected Superior of the Convent of San Ramon Nonato in Cordoba.

With the establishment of the territorial prelature Deán Funes on January 25, 1980 by Pope John Paul II with the papal bull Cum episcopus crucis axeatae from territory of the diocese of Cruz del Eje , Lucas Luis Dónnelly Carey became vicar general of the prelature. After the sudden death of Prelate Ramón Iribarne Arámburu OdeM, Dónnelly was appointed Prelate of Deán Funes by Pope John Paul II on December 30, 1980. The Pope himself donated him episcopal ordination on January 6, 1981 ; Co- consecrators were Giovanni Canestri , auxiliary archbishop in Rome , and Belchior Joaquim da Silva Neto CM , bishop of Luz . The inauguration in the prelature took place on March 14th of the same year.

He was involved in various offices in the Bishops' Conference of Argentina (AICA).

On January 18, 2000, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation. He joined the Focolare Movement and lived in Mariapoli Lia , a model settlement of the Argentine Focolare Movement in O'Higgins near Buenos Aires.
