The Lucma district is located in the Gran Chimú province in the La Libertad region in western Peru . The district has an area of 287 km². The 2017 census counted 4725 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4034, in 2007 it was 5774. The administrative seat of the district is the 2182 m high village of Lucma with 602 inhabitants (as of 2017). Lucma is 35 km south-east of the provincial capital Cascas .
Geographical location
The Lucma district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the central east of the Gran Chimú province. The district is bordered in the south and west by the Río Chicama , in the north by its right tributary, the Río Chuquillanqui .
The Lucma district borders in the southwest on the Marmot district , in the northwest on the Cascas district , in the central north on the Cospán district ( Cajamarca province ), in the northeast on the Sayapullo district , in the southeast on the Huaranchal district and in the south on the Otuzco district (the last two in the Otuzco province ).
