Lucy Staniforth (born October 2, 1992 in York , United Kingdom ) is an English national soccer player who has played for Birmingham City since 2018 .

Career

Staniforth played in the 2008/09 season at Sunderland WFC in the Northern Division of and played with the club first in the Northern Division of the FA Women's Premier League and rose with the club as champions at the end of the season in the National Division. On May 4, 2009, she was with Sunderland in the cup final, which was lost 2-1 to Arsenal. In the National Division season 2009/10 she was used in 18 games and finished fifth with the club.

For the premiere season of the newly created FA Women's Super League in 2011 , she moved to the Lincoln Ladies . With the club she finished 4th in the season. After finishing fifth in 2012 , she moved to Bristol Academy . With the club she reached her second cup final, but suffered a serious knee injury in this on May 26, 2013, so that she could only play three league games for Bristol.

In February 2014 she moved to the English champions Liverpool FC Women . Due to an injury sustained in the pre-season, she was out for the entire 2014 season. She became English champion without having played a game. In the 2015 season she then made eleven appearances, but Liverpool fell to penultimate place. In the UEFA Women's Champions League 2015/16 she had then its first international use at club level. Both games of the sixteenth-finals against the Italian champions ACF Brescia were lost 0-1.

She returned to Sunderland for the 2016 season. As a newcomer, the club was fourth in the preseason. There she made 37 missions in three seasons and was captain of the team in 2017. After the 2017/18 season, which Sunderland finished in 7th place, the club did not apply for a license for the 2018/19 season. Staniforth then moved to Birmingham City . There she was used in 19 games and finished the season in fourth place.

National team

Stokes took part with the English U-17 team in the U-17 Women's World Cup in New Zealand in 2008 , where she was used in her team's six games and finished fourth. With the U-19 she took part in the U-19 European Football Championships in 2009 and 2010 , with second place being achieved after the 2009 triumph in Belarus at the following tournament. At the U-20 World Cup in 2010 , she was used in all three England games. Between 2012 and 2015, she played six games with the U-23 team.

In June 2018 she received her first invitation to the English senior team . Three months later, she made her senior national team debut against Kazakhstan . In the 6-0 win against the Kazakhs in the last game of qualifying for the 2019 World Cup , she played 90 minutes and scored the 4-0 in the meantime. She was also used in the subsequent friendly matches.

In the SheBelieves Cup she won in 2019 , she was used in the victories against Brazil and Japan and scored the first goal in the 3-0 win against Japan. This was followed by a short stint in the 2-1 home win against Spain and on May 8th the nomination for the World Cup . At the World Cup, she only had a twelve-minute short stint in the round of 16 with a 3-0 win over Cameroon . Your team finished fourth.
