Ludovico II. De Torres (born October 28, 1551 in Rome , † July 8, 1609 there ) was an Italian cardinal and Catholic archbishop .

Ludovico was born on October 28, 1551 in Rome to Hernando and Pentesilea Sanguigna. Originally from Málaga , Spain , the family settled in Rome in the first half of the 16th century.

He studied law at the Universities of Perugia and Bologna and received his doctorate in utroque iure .

From 1588 until his death he was Archbishop of Monreale . On September 11, 1606, Pope Paul V raised him to the rank of cardinal in the consistory and he received the titular church of San Pancrazio as cardinal priest . In 1607 he was appointed cardinal protector of the Congregazione dei chierici regolari delle Scuole Pie ( Piarists ) founded by Giuseppe Calasanzio . On July 4th of the same year, he succeeded Cardinal Cesare Baronio as librarian of the Vatican Library .

As a cardinal, he and his sister Beatrice , who was a nun there, had the church rebuilt in the Benedictine monastery of Sant'Ambrogio della Massima .
