Ludwig Arnold (lawyer)
Nikolaus Ludwig Arnold (born June 3, 1798 in Eschwege ; † December 4, 1886 in Kassel ) was a German lawyer and Lord Mayor of Kassel.

Arnold's parents were the customs inspector Johannes Arnold and Katharina Elisabeth (von) Heppe . In 1825 he married Maria Dorothee Juliane Ernst (1804–1854), the daughter of court preacher Christoph Friedrich Wilhelm Ernst. His brother Wilhelm Arnold was Professor of Law in Marburg; one of his cousins was the educationalist Wilhelmine Halberstadt and his sister-in-law married Ludwig Emil Grimm .
Life and career
Arnold studied law at the University of Göttingen and the University of Marburg from 1815 to 1818 , then became a lawyer and then procurator in Rotenburg an der Fulda . After a good two years as an actuary, he worked as a regional court assessor in Borken and Homberg / Efze . From 1828 he was a judicial officer in Naumburg and from 1831 to 1838 city court assessor in Kassel. In 1838 the government appointed him to the High Court Council in Hanau , and two years later in Kassel. In September 1842 he was elected Lord Mayor of Kassel and held this office until January 1848. Then he was appointed to the management of the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Nordbahn as a member of the government. From 1851 to 1878 he was a member of the management of the Kurhessische Landeskreditkasse and since 1860 as a secret government councilor at the same time member of the management of the civil widows and orphans' fund. From 1842 to 1848 he was a member of the Kurhessische Estates Assembly and from 1842 to 1844 its vice-president.
