Ludwig Wilhelm von Schorlemmer , also Schorlemer (* 1695 in Hesse; † 14 May 1776 in Berlin ) was a royal Prussian lieutenant general , knight of the order Pour le Mérite , chief of the Dragoon Regiment No. 6 and governor of Wolmirstedt and Wanzleben.

Life

origin

He came from the Hessian line Herringhausen . His father was the imperial major Benedikt Franz von Schorlemer , his mother Beate von Bielefeld .

Military career

Schorlemmer joined the Prussian army in 1718. He came to the cuirassier regiment No. 3 (Dewitz) and became Kornet on November 29, 1718. He rose further and in 1739 was transferred as Rittmeister from the Cuirassier Regiment No. 7 (Ihlow) to the Cuirassier Regiment No. 12 (Waldau). There he became major on August 2, 1739 , lieutenant colonel in 1741 , and after the battle of Chotusitz in May 1742 colonel . For his bravery in the Battle of Hohenfriedberg on June 4, 1745, he received the Pour le Mérite. In 1747 he was appointed major general and became chief of Dragoon Regiment No. 6 (Möllendorf). In 1751 Frederick II gave him the prebend of Münster-Eiffel . On October 5, 1752 he was also governor of Wolmirstedt and Wansleben . In June 1755 he became lieutenant general .

During the Seven Years' War he was blamed for the loss of the battle of Groß-Jägersdorf (August 30, 1757) because he should not have cleared up enough. In addition, after a repulsed attack on the right wing of the Russian position, his cavalry had retreated too far and had not come back into battle. Nevertheless, he took part in the battles of Zorndorf (August 25, 1758), Kay (July 23, 1759) and Kunersdorf (August 12, 1759), but without setting any accents.

He said goodbye in 1760 and stayed in Berlin where he died on May 14, 1776.

family

With royal permission he married Anna Gertrud Langen (1700 - 14 June 1779). With her he had two sons and two daughters.
