Club career

Elsner began his career because his father was playing in France at the time and the family lived here, with the clubs AS Cannes and OGC Nice . In 2002 he moved to US Cagnes , to which he remained loyal for two seasons.

In 2004 he returned to his native Slovenia and signed with NK Domžale . In his first season at NK he was runner- up in the highest Slovenian league, the Slovenska Nogometna Liga . This success was repeated in the following season. This season (2005/06) the defender played for the first time at international club level. Elsner played through in the 1st round of the UEFA Cup qualification against the representative from San Marino , FC Domagnano , the game was won 5-0. The 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons were very successful. The championship title could be won both times. In both championship seasons Elsner was used in all games. In 2007 the Slovenian Supercup could also be celebrated.

After a fifth place in 2008/09 and seventh place in the 2009/10 autumn season, Elsner moved abroad to SK Austria Kärnten for the 2009/10 winter break.

After relegation and bankruptcy of Austria he returned to NK Domžale and ended his career there at the end of the 2011/12 season.

National team career

Elsner played internationally once for the Slovenian U-21 national team and just as often for the Slovenian senior national team . On May 26, 2008 he came into play in the friendly against Sweden in the 88th minute for Bojan Jokić .

Coaching career

Soon after the end of his career, he took over the coaching position at Domžale in 2013; before he was announced as the new coach of NK Olimpija Ljubljana on September 2, 2016 . It held him there for about a year; then he moved to the newly promoted Paphos FC in the top football league of Cyprus . His contract there ended after just over half a year. From the end of January 2018 he was initially without a club.

On May 23, 2018, he signed a coaching contract for three years from the 2018/19 season with the Belgian club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise , which plays in the second division .

With this club he reached 3rd place in the 2018/19 season. After Elsner had received offers from several clubs, he decided to move to the French club SC Amiens with a contract for two years. On June 19, 2019, the termination of his previous contract was agreed.
