Lukas Rombach (born January 8, 1993 ) is a German biathlete .

Career

Rombach starts for the SC Wehr and belongs to the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr . He made his international debut at the Student Winter Universiade 2013 in Val di Fiemme , where he was 43rd in the sprint and 36th in the pursuit.

In 2008 he switched to the ski boarding school in Furtwangen , where he advanced his sporting development. In the junior area he narrowly missed the qualification for a junior world championship several times, but was able to achieve top placings in the national races as well as in numerous alpine cups. After graduating from high school in 2012 at Otto Hahn Gymnasium in Furtwangen, he immediately started studying at the local University of Economics and Technology.

In his last junior year in the 2012/13 season he was the most successful participant in the German Junior Championships on the Großer Arber when he won the German championship title in the individual over 15 km and in the relay, together with Roman Rees and Alexander Ketzer .

In the summer of 2013 he moved from his home base in the Black Forest to Ruhpolding to Tobias Reiter's training group . A year later he trained in a training group with Simon Schempp and Florian Graf under the direction of Ricco Groß and Andreas Stitzl .

In the men's category, Rombach won the bronze medal at the 2013 German championships with the relay team, together with Tobias Hermann and Benedikt Doll . A year later he was eleventh in the sprint and tenth in the pursuit at the German Championships 2015 in the Hohenzollern Ski Stadium on the Großer Arber .

At the German Championships in 2016 in Oberhof and Altenberg , he achieved several top placements, including fifth in the sprint, seventh in the pursuit, and fifth in the mass start.

After finishing fourth in the overall ranking of the 2016 German Championships , Rombach qualified for the 2016/17 IBU Cup season in September. In this he started in Beitostölen, Norway with a 68th place. This was followed by a 25th place in the second sprint competition. At the beginning of the second IBU Cup of the season in Ridnaun / ITA , he achieved 3rd place in the mixed competition together with Nadine Horchler, Denise Hermann and Matthias Bischl. In the following sprint and the pursuit he reached the places 38th and 40th. At the third IBU Cup in Obertilliach / AUT he reached the 63rd place in the individual competition over 20 km. On the following day he achieved his best individual result to date in the sprint with 22nd place and two faultless shoots. In the further course of the 2016/17 season, Rombach no longer made a big impact, as he u. a. suffered from chronic tonsillitis.

In the 2017/18 season, Rombach won his first DM title at the German Championships in Ruhpolding with the Baden-Württemberg relay.
