Luo Wei ( Chinese  罗 微 , Pinyin Luó Wēi , born May 23, 1983 in Beijing ) is a former Chinese Taekwondoin who was active in the middleweight and welterweight division. She became world champion in 2003 and Olympic middleweight champion in 2004 .

Career

Luo was active on the international stage for the first time in 2002 at the World Cup in Tokyo , where she was eliminated in the round of 16 against Yang Jeong-im . In the same year she reached the semi-finals at the Asian Games in Busan . After losing to Wan Chen Chang , she won the bronze medal. In 2003 she became world champion in the class up to 72 kilograms in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . She defeated Umit Kabsikhova , Sanaz Shahbazi and Aitziber Los Arcos before she defeated Myriam Baverel from France 3-2 in the final. Shortly afterwards, after winning the final against Kim Yeon-ji in Paris, she successfully qualified for the Olympic Games in Athens . There followed in the middleweight division, the class up to 67 kilograms, wins against Hwang Kyung-seon , Nina Solheim and Ineabelle Díaz , before she met Elisavet Mystakidou from Greece in the final , who she defeated 7: 6.

The following year remained without a sporting highlight, at the World Cup , Luo was eliminated in the round of 16 against Sarah Stevenson . In 2006 she won the silver medal at the Asian Championships in Bangkok behind Rapatkorn Prasopsuk , while she won the gold medal at the Asian Games in Doha after a 1-0 final win over Alaa Kutkut from Jordan. In the semifinals she beat Lee In-jong 7: 6. At the 2007 World Championships , Luo fought her way to the semi-finals, in which she was defeated by Lee In-jong 2-5. In 2008 she won the bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Henan . Luo celebrated her last international success at the Asian Games in Guangzhou , where she again secured the gold medal. She prevailed in the semifinals 2-1 against Rapatkorn Prasopsuk, before defeating Ferusa Yergeschowa 5-4 in the final .
