Luther Ingram
Luther Ingram (born November 30, 1937 in Jackson , Tennessee , † March 19, 2007 in Belleville , Illinois ) was an American soul singer and songwriter .
Ingram's biggest hit was (If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don't Want to Be Right , which reached # 3 on the US pop charts and # 1 on the R&B charts in 1972 . With Sir Mack Rice he wrote the hit Respect Yourself for the Staple Singers . He performed with Ike Turner , Isaac Hayes and lived with Jimi Hendrix in New York City for a while .
On March 19, 2007, Ingram died of heart failure. He has suffered from diabetes , kidney disease and partial blindness for years .
