Male faithful ( Lobelia erinus ), also known as blue lobelia , is a species of the genus Lobelia within the bellflower family (Campanulaceae). The shortened term "lobelia" is imprecise, as this is also the name for the whole genus Lobelia .

Vegetative characteristics
Faithful to men is a low, bushy or creeping, annual to perennial herbaceous plant . With a length of 1.5 centimeters, their leaves are relatively small and narrow to obscure, medium to dark green, sometimes bronze colored. The leaf margin can be serrated, serrated or lobed.
Generative characteristics
The flowers of the Männertreu varieties appear from summer to autumn. About 5 cm long, loose racemose inflorescences with many flowers are about 0.5 to 4.5 cm long inflorescence shafts. The hermaphrodite flower is zygomorphic with a length of up to 1 centimeter and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The five sepals are fused. The five petals are fused with tubes, with the corolla tube split and two-lipped on the top almost to the base. The fan-shaped lower lip is three-lobed. The color of the crown varies depending on the variety between white, blue, violet, purple, pink or red, the center is yellow or white. The five stamens are 3 to 7 millimeters long.
A double capsule fruit is formed. The brown seeds are 0.3 to 0.4 millimeters long.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28 or 42.

The distribution area of the Männertreu lies in southern Africa and extends from Malawi , Mozambique , Zambia and Zimbabwe south to Botswana , Namibia , Swaziland , Lesotho and the South African provinces .
use
In temperate areas of the world, the male loyal varieties are popular ornamental plants for gardens and balconies. There are many varieties. Some of the varieties are propagated with seeds, other varieties are only propagated vegetatively using cuttings ; it depends on whether the varieties are “seed-safe”.
