Mürmes

The 43 hectare large nature reserve Mürmes located in the Vulkaneifel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It is a flat moor in an old maark basin southeast of Daun in the districts of Mehren and Ellscheid . From the beginning of the 15th century until around 1800 there was a fish pond created by the Electors of Trier . After that, the peat layer, up to four meters thick, served the surrounding population as a source of raw materials for a long time. The Mürmes has been designated as a nature reserve since 1975.

The vegetation is dominated by numerous water-loving plants, such as B. Spitzblütige- , random coil and Juncus effusus , Eriophorum angustifolium , forest mantels , Ivy-Water crowfoot , spotted orchid , grass chickweed , Haarstrangblättriger Wasserfenchel , Sundew , Skullcap , swamp yarrow , water knotweed and Wild Angelica . The tree population is dominated by the ash willow .

For breeding birds for the area u. a. Common snipe , whinchat , field owl , lapwing , gray shrike , reed bunting and meadow pipit are known. The moor also serves as a resting place for numerous migratory birds.
