target

The aim of the association is to educate the population about racism and right-wing extremism and to implement measures against xenophobia, racism, right-wing extremism and for equal treatment in the world of work (§2 of the association's statutes).

history

The association was created as a response of the trade unions to the increasing racism and xenophobia in the Federal Republic of the 80s. In 1985 the editors of the union youth policy magazine “ ran ” suggested bringing the symbol of the French SOS Racisme “the yellow hand” to Germany. The idea was approved by the DGB youth and the DGB federal executive board. On November 18, 1986, the first board of the association was formed and entered in the association register. Within a few months, the defensive yellow hand not only became a trade union symbol, but also a nationwide symbol against xenophobia and racism. Celebrities such as Willy Brandt , Nena , Günter Wallraff and Götz George appeared as supporters of the campaign. In his role as Horst Schimanski , George wore the yellow hand in 1988 in the episode " Broken Blossoms " of the Tatort television series . The Rodgau Monotones took up the topic and the slogan "Don't mess my buddy" in 1994 in a song of the same name.

Between 2009 and 2011, the organization and financing of the association were restructured in view of the now "low presence of the Yellow Hand and the activities of the Kumpelverein in the trade union public", and the name and logo were updated. The association against xenophobia and racism "Don't turn my buddy on!" EV became "Don't turn my buddy on!" - for equal treatment, against xenophobia and racism ”. The old logo got a new font.
