Maciej Bydliński (born March 11, 1988 in Szczyrk ) is a former Polish ski racer . He started in all disciplines and has been Polish champion six times so far.

biography

Bydliński took part in the FIS races for the first time in the 2003/2004 season and achieved his first podium places and his first victory in the next winter. He started at the European Youth Olympic Festival 2005 in Monthey , where his best result was 13th place in slalom, and at the Junior World Championships 2005 in Bardonecchia , where he was only placed in the bottom field. At the end of winter, the then 17-year-old achieved his first major success at national level when he became Polish slalom champion. Due to injury, Bydliński had to pause the entire 2005/2006 season. In winter 2006/2007 the Pole made his first start in the European Cup . To this day, however, he did not make it into the points in any of his European Cup races, i.e. among the best 30. At the 2007 Junior World Championships in Altenmarkt / Flachau , he finished 30th in the downhill and 40th in the Super-G. The next year he achieved his best result at the Junior World Championships with 23rd place in the Super-G in Formigal .

At the national level, Bydliński established himself as one of the strongest runners. From 2008 to 2010 he was Polish champion in giant slalom three times in a row, and in 2008 and 2010 also Polish champion in slalom. In the World Cup , Bydliński made his debut on October 26, 2008 in the giant slalom in Sölden . For the time being, however, he never reached the points - also because of many failures. As the only male participant in his country, he started in February 2009 at the World Cup in Val-d'Isère, France . He finished last in the Super Combined 23rd place and in the Super G out of 47 runners ranked 41st. In the slalom he was eliminated in the first round, while in the giant slalom he was already disqualified in the qualifying race. Shortly after the World Cup, he was twice in the top ten at the 2009 Universiade .

Bydliński won his first World Cup points in his 19th World Cup race, the Super Combined in Wengen on January 14, 2011, with a 27th place. He was the first Pole since Andrzej Bachleda-Curuś junior in the 2002/03 season to win World Cup points. At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , Bydliński remained without a result: he was eliminated in slalom, super-G and super-combination, and in giant slalom he did not take part in the second round after finishing 56th. In the 2011/12 season , Bydliński was able to score two more times in the World Cup: He was 30th in the super combination of Wengen and 27th in the super combination of Sochi ( Krasnaja Poljana ).

Bydliński achieved his first top 10 placement in the World Cup on January 27, 2013 as ninth in the Hahnenkamm combination from Kitzbühel - in which only ten runners were classified.
