Madonna and Child in Samonac

The sculpture Madonna and Child in the Church of St-Martin in Samonac , a French commune in the Gironde department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , was created in the 19th century. In 1980 the sculpture was added to the list of listed objects ( Base Palissy ) in France as Monument historique .

The wooden sculpture is gilded, it stands on the reredos of the Marian altar. Mary , depicted with a crown, carries the baby Jesus , also with a crown, on her left arm. The child holds the globe with the cross in the left hand and the right raised in blessing. The many folds of Maria's dress give her appearance a fullness.
