Madonna and Child (Créon)

Madonna and Child in Créon

The sculpture Madonna and Child in the Notre-Dame church in Créon , a French commune in the Gironde department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , was created in the 14th century. In 2002, the Gothic sculpture was added to the list of listed buildings ( Base Palissy ) in France as Monument historique .

The limestone sculpture presumably comes from the Benedictine Abbey of La Sauve-Majeure . The standing Mary is holding the baby Jesus with her left arm. In her right hand she holds a fruit as a sign of fertility .
