Maecenas (Austria)
The Maecenas is the Austrian cultural sponsorship award . It has been awarded annually since 1989 by the Initiative Wirtschaft für Kunst (IWK) in cooperation with the ORF . Entrepreneurs and companies are awarded for promoting art projects that could not have been realized without this support.
The “Initiatives Economy for Art” (IWK) were founded in 1987 by Martin Schwarz as an independent association of business enterprises that want to promote cooperation between business and art. The main prize “Maecenas” is awarded in several categories: beginners, small and medium-sized enterprises, concept and special prize (s). The MAECENAS is also awarded in individual federal states such as Lower Austria (since 2001), Vorarlberg (since 2004), Styria (2005) and Salzburg (2006).
The name “Maecenas” is derived from the Roman Maecenas , who promoted poets like Virgil and Horace in the Augustan period .

In addition to the prices listed here, numerous awards and honorable mentions are also given in various categories . The prizes are awarded at the Maecenas gala in autumn and are purely ideal, so there is no financial endowment. [outdated]

Maecenas in the federal states
Since 2001, the Maecenas has also been awarded in Lower Austria with ecoplus as a partner. In Styria, the first Maecenas was awarded in 2012 and in 2015 with the additional prize for cultural sponsorship special prize for Styrian cultural providers.
