Magnus Vilhelm (Wilhelm) von Düben (born February 12, 1814 on Vegeholm ( Malmöhus län ) in the north of the historic province of Skåne ; † August 9, 1845 ) was a Swedish biologist and naturalist . His botanical author abbreviation is " Düben ".

Magnus Vilhelm Freiherr von Düben comes from the Swedish noble family von Düben . Their ancestor was Michael Düben († around 1585), a tax officer from Lützen and the grandfather of Anders Düben († 1662), who was court music director in Stockholm. His wife Anna Maria Gabrielsdotter was the chambermaid of Maria Eleonora of Brandenburg , Queen of Sweden. They had two sons, Peter and Gustaf Düben , from whom all branches of the family descended. Magnus Vilhelm is the great-grandson of Anders Düben. His parents were Captain Ulrik Vilhelm Freiherr von Düben and Katarina Flinck. The family of the Barons von Düben produced some famous naturalists and composers, including Reichsrat Carl Vilhelm von Düben and Gustaf Vilhelm Johan von Düben .

Magnus Vilhelm von Düben began his natural science studies in 1828 at Lund University and graduated in 1835 with his doctorate . His achievements were honored with the laurel wreath on the occasion of his doctoral award, the university's second highest honor. Three years later, in 1838, he was appointed professor of botany at the same university . He was also a curator at the Natural History Museum in Lund . His promising scientific career came to an abrupt end with his untimely death in 1845. Von Düben died unmarried and left no children.

In his short but busy life, Magnus Vilhelm von Düben not only devoted himself to botany, but also pursued numerous humanities studies.
