The Maisenbach is a forest creek in the area of the municipality of Abtsgmünd in the Ostalbkreis in northeastern Baden-Württemberg , which flows from the right into the upper Kocher after a little over three kilometers south-southeast at the slope of the Büchelberger Ridge into the river valley near the hamlet of Christhäuser .

geography

course

The Maisenbach rises from a source at 504  m above sea level. NHN in the Täschental forest area on the still steep upper drop from the Höfenberg plateau, the highest point of the Büchelberger ridge on its northwest spur . The water flows downhill for about a quarter of a kilometer in the direction of the slope, then the young stream creates a deep valley gully on what is now a steady south-south-east course. After about 0.7 kilometers running from a first major side blade to 435.2  m above sea level. NHN a first tributary of about 0.4 km in length. About 0.4 km further there is a shorter one from the right and another about 0.4 km long from the direction of the previous one.

After a good half of its course, the Maisenbach reaches the open corridor of a clearing island around the Abtsgmünder hamlet Kocherhof and Maisenhäuser for the first time . Here it flows through to about 405  m above sea level. NHN a 0.8 hectare pond and then passes the three scattered properties of the maize houses. Then he steps on something below 400  m above sea level. NHN enters the steeply incised Christklinge forest gorge in its lower reaches, in which a road accompanies it. The small hamlet of Christhäuser is located in its narrow bay at the mouth of the Kocher Valley , where the Maisenbach passes under the B 19, which runs along the right bank of the river, and flows beyond it over a small cone of rubble at around 355  m above sea level. NHN from the right into the upper digester .

The Maisenbach flows after a 3.2 km long run with an average bed gradient of about 47 ‰ about 149 meters below its source.

Catchment area

The Maisenbach drains an area of around 2.0 km² on the Kocher valley slope of the Büchelberger ridge , the highest point of which is on the Höfenberg a little over 555  m above sea level. Reached NHN . From a natural point of view, the area belongs with its higher parts to the Sulzbacher Wald , with its lower parts to the Sulzbacher Kochertal , both subdivisions of the Swabian-Franconian forest mountains . The Büchel Berger ridge is a black Jura -Hochfläche, including lies to the cooker down the layer packet of the Keupers down in the silica sand stone ( Hassberge formation ) of the means Keupers , shortly before the confluence also the underlying lower Bunte marl are ( Steigerwald formation ) open minded.

On top of the ridge there is only a short stretch of north-eastern watershed to the catchment area of the Bühler , which competes via its tributary Stahlbach . Behind the eastern and western borders of the area, other streams run roughly parallel to the Kocher, in the east the Gießbach , which also flows down from the slope of the Büchelberger Ridge into it, a little above the Maisenbach , in the west the much longer Rötenbach , which passes in front of the north-west spur Höfenberg.

90% of the area is forest; Apart from the part of the cleared island mentioned, almost only a small gusset of the Höfenberg plateau is open. There are only the small hamlets of Maisenhäuser and Christhäuser on the run , plus the smaller hamlet of Kocherhof on the watershed to the Gießbach . They all belong to the Hohenstadt part of the Abtsgmünd municipality , which covers the greater part of the area. The smaller one with the higher parts on the slope is part of the Pommertsweiler partial marking.

Nature and protected areas

The Maisenbach is a mostly near-natural brook, on which alders are often found. On the upper run in front of the maize houses it is one to one and a half meters wide, very clear and has sandy sediment in the bed, on the lower part of the Christ blade it runs up to two meters wide, partly next to rocks, where stones mix into its sediment.

The plateau of the hill farms is part of the conservation area Büchel Berger ridge and the surrounding area , the entire catchment area is located in the Swabian-Franconian Forest .
