Fudbalski Klub Makedonija Gjorče Petrov (in Cyrillic : Ф. К. Македонија Ѓорче Петров) is a football club in Skopje, North Macedonia .

history

The club was founded in 1932 under the name Hask as an amateur club, making it one of the oldest clubs in the country. Later he called himself Rudar and later again Industrijalec . Under the name Yugokokta , the club took part in professional football in Yugoslavia from 1970 . For the 1989/90 season, the club was named after Gjorče Petrov (1865-1921), a leading representative of IMRO , and thus received its current name.

In Yugoslav times, the club played in the lowest leagues, the greatest success in 1990 was promotion to the third division. After Macedonia gained independence, Makedonija was one of the founding members of the newly created Prva Makedonska Liga and barely escaped relegation in the first season when they were one point ahead of relegated FK Metalurg Skopje . However, the following season was finished in last place, as only two wins of the season could be booked.

1994/95 succeeded the immediate rise and Makedonija was able to place itself in the safe middle field in the following years. 1997/98 even managed to place third, which made participation in the UI Cup possible. In 2001 they narrowly escaped relegation, the following year they were penultimate in the regular season and as the last of the subsequent round of relegation, the club had to relegate to the lower house.

After two seventh places in the second division Makedonija qualified third in the 2004/05 season for the relegation game for promotion and prevailed 2-1 with a goal in stoppage time against Madzari Solidarnost Skopje .

Surprisingly, the newcomer immediately achieved the best placement in the club's history when they were runner-up three points behind Rabotnicki Kometal Skopje . In the first round of qualifying for the 06/07 UEFA Cup , however, the club failed at Bulgarian representatives Lokomotiv Sofia , who after a 2-0 win in Sofia a 1-1 in the second leg were enough to advance.

Makedonija Skopje became Macedonian champions for the first time in the 2008/09 season and thus appear in the Champions League qualifying for the first time. In this they played against the Belarusian champions BATE Borissow , but were defeated in both games with 0: 2 each.

In the following season Makedonija and Sloga Jugomagnat came in protest against the association twice in a row not to games in the Prva Liga, so that both clubs were excluded from the game and Makedonija had to relegate as the reigning champions. They only played 15 games in the season, from which they took 23 points. All games of Makedonija from the twelfth matchday onwards were canceled, so Makedonija was put in last place in the table with a balance of 20 points from eleven games together with Sloga Jugomagnat, which were also excluded from play with eleven games on November 30, 2009.
