history

In the late 14th century, a closed German-language island (later called Walddeutsche , which became Polish- speaking until the 18th century ) around the city of Łańcut , of about ten villages, possibly including the village of Malawa, first appeared in 1424 as Lichtenhaw as [alias ] Malowa mentioned in a document. Later it was mentioned as Malowa (1450), Malyowa Volya (1515) and Malawa (1589, 1629, 1794 ...). The parish was mentioned for the first time in 1483, under the German name Lichtenaw (Lichtenau). The probable German settlement in Malawa has not yet been researched.

At first the village belonged to the noble family Pilecki (descendants of Otto von Pilcza ), later to the Lubomirski family . In 1712 the Magdalenen Chapel was built according to the design by the architect Tylman van Gameren .

During the first partition of Poland in 1772, Malawa became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804). After the abolition of patrimonial it formed a municipality in the Rzeszów district from 1850 .

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, the place became part of Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .

From 1975 to 1998 Malawa was part of the Rzeszów Voivodeship .
