Maleimide is usually prepared by reaction of maleic anhydride with ammonia and subsequent elimination of water .

use
Maleimide and substituted derivatives serve both as photoinitiators and as monomeric starting materials for anionic or radical homopolymerizations and copolymerizations . Maleimide is also used as a stabilizer in cooling lubricants.
