Mammillaria crinita is a species of Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet crinita means 'hairy, hairy'. The German Cactus Society , the Society of Austrian Cactus Friends and the Swiss Cactus Society voted Mammillaria zeilmanniana 2015 “Cactus of the Year”.

Mammillaria crinita grows singly or in groups with spherical dark green shoots and reaches heights of 1 to 8 centimeters and the same diameter. The conical to cylindrical warts are not very close together. They do not contain milk juice . The axillae are only sparsely covered with wool, some have bristles. There are 1 to 7 (sometimes more) awl central spines , which can also be absent. They are yellowish to red to dark brown and up to 16 millimeters long. 1 to 2 of them are sometimes hooked. The 11 to 32 mostly awl, occasionally hair-like radial spines are white to yellow and 6 to 9 millimeters long.
The funnel-shaped flowers are very different. They are yellowish white to white to very light magenta or light magenta, only rarely magenta. The flowers are 1 to 2 inches long. The club-shaped to egg-shaped fruits are green to bright red and contain brownish black, roughly pitted seeds .
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Mammillaria crinita is widespread in the Mexican states of San Luis Potosí , Zacatecas , Guanajuato , Michoacán , Querétaro , Aguascalientes, and Hidalgo .
The first description was in 1828 by Augustin-Pyrame de Candolle .
Synonyms include Mammillaria duwei , Mammillaria painteri , Mammillaria zeilmanniana , Mammillaria nana and Mammillaria schelhasei Pfeiff. (1838).
Mammillaria crinita is in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Least Concern (LC) ", d. H. classified as not endangered in nature. Mammillaria duwei and Mammillaria zeilmanniana were listed as " Endangered (EN) " in the 2002 list . H. endangered, classified. In 2013, both species will be classified as “ Critically Endangered (CR) ”. H. listed as critically endangered. Mammillaria painteri is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data. Mammillaria nana is listed in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as “ Least Concern (LC) ”. H. classified as not endangered in nature.
