The 38 cm Siegfried (E) cannon was a German railway gun used by the Wehrmacht during World War II .

history

The cannon was a modified 38 cm rapid loading cannon C / 34 , as used on the German battleships Bismarck and Tirpitz .

The cannon, built in three copies between 1939 and 1943, could be used independently of existing tracks on tracks and turntables built at short notice.

There were two different projectiles for the 294,000 kilogram cannon. The light grenade weighed 495 kilograms and could be fired up to 55,700 meters. The heavy grenade weighing 800 kilograms, however, flew only 42,100 meters. The life of a tube was 240 shots.
