Mandy Walker (* 1963 in Bundoora near Melbourne , Victoria ) is an award winning Australian cinematographer in the film, which supervised over 20 productions, including feature films as Lantana , Australia , traces , Hidden Figures - Unrecognized Heroines or between two lives .

life and career

Walker began her career in the film industry at the age of 18 after high school, taking courses from actor and academic John Flaus. She later made independent student films, small documentaries and music videos with, among others, the Melbourne-born cameraman and director Ray Argall. It was Argall who hired her for his film debut as a director for the drama The Return in 1989. The film was released in 1990 and in 1993 led to another collaboration with Ray Argall in the film production Eight Ball . In 1996, Mandy Walker shot the pictures for Kathryn Millard's drama Parklands, starring Cate Blanchett . Her camera work for Parklands has received several awards, including the AACTA Award in the Best Cinematography in a Non-Feature Film category . Further film commissions in the 1990s included Love Serenade with Miranda Otto , as well as her contributions to the film dramas Life for director Lawrence Johnston and The Well for director Samantha Lang. In 2000 she worked for the director Shirley Barrett for their comedy Walk the Talk , before she worked as a camerawoman for the mystery drama Lantana by director Ray Lawrence with Anthony LaPaglia , Geoffrey Rush and Barbara Hershey in 2001 . For the film Lantana she won the Award of Distinction from the Australian Cinematographers Society . One year later, in 2002, she photographed Paul Goldman's sports drama Australian Rules , and in 2003 the historical drama Lies and Truths - Shattered Glass with Hayden Christensen, for which she received an Independent Spirit Award nomination . In 2008, the film epic Australia with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman in the leading roles was followed by the second collaboration with director Baz Luhrmann, with whom she had already worked on the short film Chanel N ° 5: The Film in 2004.
