Manfred Spoo (born July 6, 1953 in Saarlouis ) is a German radio journalist, cabaret artist and author from Saarland .

Life

After attending primary school in Saarlouis, the district secondary school in Dillingen (Saar) and the Saarlouiser Gymnasium am Stadtgarten , Spoo attended the commercial vocational school in Saarbrücken as part of an apprenticeship as a banker . He then moved to the business academy in Blieskastel , where he passed his Abitur. Subsequently, Spoo began studying business administration .

After school education and business studies, Manfred Spoo worked as a bank clerk at Saar-LB in Saarbrücken. In 1981 he gave up his learned profession and performed as a cabaret artist on cabaret stages in Saarland. Spoo spent his childhood and youth in the district town of Saarlouis, where he was one of the co-founders of the self-administered youth center, conducted theater workshops for children and was involved in the “cultural cooperative SCALA”.

In 1979 Spoo founded the cabaret ensemble "Die Filzläuse" in Saarlouis together with the then teacher student Klaus Kessler , with which he celebrated its premiere in 1980. In previous years he had already self-published his own texts ( Lästerlyrik , Gesammeltes Stammeln , Heiteres and others ), which he occasionally read and sold in small round tables in youth bars.

For its cultural commitment in Saarlouis, Spoo was awarded the alternative culture prize of the SBS ("Self-managed depot Saarlouis") in 1993. In 2014 he received the "Saarlouiser Kulturpreis" for his literary work.

Manfred Spoo lives as a freelance author in Dillingen and Saarbrücken.

Worked for the Saarland broadcasting company

The Saarländischer Rundfunk became aware of Spoo through his cabaret appearances, and he received numerous invitations to cabaret productions by the station (“Saar-Brettl”), which are documented in live recordings.

In 1983 Manfred Spoo became a freelancer at Saarländischer Rundfunk, in the following years he also worked as a journalist and author for other ARD broadcasters ( Deutschlandfunk , SWR , Bayerischer Rundfunk , ORF ). In addition to this activity, he continued with the "Filzläusen", but increasingly also as a solo cabaret artist. Spoo had its solo premiere in 1984, and in a duo with the Saarbrücken music cabaret artist Jürgen Albers, he brought several programs to the stage.

In the mid-1980s Spoo took over an editor's position for cabaret and U-Wort at Saarländischer Rundfunk. In this function he was the production manager and producer of several successful SR productions (" Hanns Dieter Hüschs social evening ", "Festival Chanson", " St. Ingberter Pfanne "). In addition, Spoo made a name for himself as a presenter of successful radio programs ("Happy Weekend"). In 1990 he took over the moderation of the "Mundart-Werkstatt", a respected literary dialect broadcast with the author and dialect researcher Dr. Edith Braun .

As editor and producer for SR 1 Europawelle , Manfred Spoo was responsible for broadcasting comedy formats from 1991 on. He brought the radio character “ Jacques' Bistro ” into the program for the program “Bistro” and produced, among other things, “Radio Grappling Hook”, “Director Hummel”, “Salon Roger” and other series. From 1997 Manfred Spoo developed the Saarland dialect and cabaret series "Dialect, Music and Quantity" with Gerhard Bungert and other Saarland artists for the third program of Saarland Radio . For well-known dialect artists from Saarland, the neighboring Lorraine, Luxembourg and Rhineland-Palatinate as well as for a new generation of authors, songwriters and comedians, Spoos programs became a stepping stone to the general public.

Spoo's journalistic work focuses on regional reports as well as the production and moderation of programs with a regional character on SR 3 Saarlandwelle ("Happy Weekend", " Colorful radio minutes ", "Bei uns dehemm"). In 2001 Manfred Spoo developed the concept for “Our place really big”, a Saarland quiz and game show, which he has presented as editor and presenter since then, and which was broadcast on October 29, 2010 for the hundredth time.

On August 1, 2013, Spoo ended his activity at Saarländischer Rundfunk. Since then he has been working as a freelance writer.

dialect

In his texts and stage programs, Manfred Spoo intensively cultivates the use of the Saarland dialects ( Mosel-Franconian and Rhine-Franconian ). In 2006 Manfred Spoo represented his federal state on the “dialect mile” at the central events in Germany on the Day of German Unity at the invitation of the Saarland State Chancellery .
