Manfred Steiner (politician)

Manfred Steiner (born April 7, 1934 in Lausnitz , Saalfeld district; † September 12, 2011 in Pößneck ) was a German party functionary of the DBD block party , chairman of the Gera district committee of the DBD, member of the People's Chamber of the GDR and from 1990 in the new agricultural administration of Thuringia is a leader.

Life

Steiner, son of a farming family, attended elementary school , completed an agricultural apprenticeship and studied from 1951 to 1954 at the technical college for agriculture in Triptis . He completed his studies as a state-certified farmer. In 1951 he joined the DBD, the FDGB and the FDJ . From 1954 to 1958 he worked in the agriculture department of the Gera district council , from 1958 to 1972 chairman of the LPG " Thomas Müntzer " in Köstitz and from 1972 to 1974 an economist in the LPG (P) "Orlatal" in Oppurg . In 1970/1971 he completed an external course at the LPG University in Meißen with a degree in agricultural engineering. From 1974 to 1977 he was the deputy of the construction manager and investment manager of the VEB Pig Breeding and Fattening Combine Neustadt an der Orla , then Head of Investments / Rationalization in the VEB Industrial Fattening Combine "Hermsdorfer Kreuz".

From 1961 to 1967 and again from 1979 to 1990 Steiner was a member of the DBD district board Gera, from 1988 also a member of the secretariat and finally 1989/90 chairman of the DBD district board Gera. In March 1990 he was elected deputy chairman of the DBD regional board of Thuringia .

Steiner was

  • from 1963 to 1983 member of the DBD party executive committee, including 1968 to 1977 also member of the presidium,
  • from 1963 to 1967 member of the Gera district assembly and member of the permanent construction commission of the Gera district assembly
  • and finally from 1967 to 1987 a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR and a member of the committee for industry, construction and transport.

After the political turning point in 1989, Steiner became a member of the political advisory committee in the Gera district and, from 1990 onwards, helped to set up the central authority for Thuringia. He became head of the agricultural division in the new Weimar regional administration office. During the reorganization in 1994, some of the positions were transferred to what was then the Thuringian State Institute for Agriculture in Jena. Steiner headed the remaining departments in Weimar and was also responsible for the lower offices (agriculture, land consolidation) and training for agricultural administration in Thuringia until he left.
