Maniguin Island is an island in the Antique Province of the Philippines . It is also known under the names of Maningning Island and Hammerhead Island. Maniguin Island is about 43 km off the west coast of Panay Island in the Cuyo East Passage, a sea area in the north of the Sulu Sea . The island has an area of approx. 1.4 km² and is administered by the municipality of Culasi . In the 2007 census, there were 535 inhabitants. The Sitios Pamiliskadan, Luyo, Rikudo and Bil-at together form the Barangay Maniguin Island.
Maniguin Island has numerous coral reefs and seagrass beds in front of it. The inhabitants of the island are cultivating sea grasses of the species Kappaphycus alvarezii in a demonstration project on an area of 50 hectares. The project is supported by the SEAFDEC / AQD Institutional Repository (SAIR). The topography of the island is hilly and numerous hiking trails cross the island. There are two lighthouses on the island, the older one was inaugurated in 1906. It has been replaced by a modern lighthouse that is powered by solar panels.
The Maniguin Elementary School and the Maniguin Day-Care Center are located on the island and the Maniguin Health Institution has been set up for health care. There is a ferry connection to the island from the port in Culasi, the journey time takes about 4 hours.
