Malangabang Island is a Philippine island in the Iloilo Province . It is located about 12 km off the east coast of Panay Island , at the northern entrance of the Guimaras Strait in the western Visayas Sea . To the northwest lies Pan de Azucar Island 3.9 km away , Botlog Island about 4 km west and Tago Island 6 km away . To the southwest are Agho Island 0.9 km and Igbon Island 2.5 km away .
On the island lies the Barangay Malangabang of the same name , which is part of the administrative structure of the greater congregation of Concepcion . In 2010 it had exactly 2542 inhabitants and is described as village-like . There are no regular ferry connections to the island, outrigger boats have to be rented in the fishing port of Concepcion. The crossing takes about 45 minutes.
The topography of the island is characterized by a hilly terrain, which in the center of the island on Mount Tan-ag rises to 239 meters, according to other sources 158 meters above sea level. The coastline of the approximately 2.1 km long and 1.8 km wide island is lined with sandy beaches. Extensive coral reefs lie in front of the island to the southwest and enclose the small island of Chico Island. The island's vegetation consists of tropical vegetation, which consists largely of coconut palms , mango trees , bushes and large areas of grass.
