Origin and meaning of the name

The name is actually a short form of Manuel or Emanuel or Manuela / Emmanuelle (female), which is now also used as an independent male or female first name. In rare cases, however, the name refers to Manu , the progenitor of the people in Hinduism.

In Māori , Manu means bird, the name is common in the Māori and on some Pacific islands such as Fiji , Tonga and Samoa both as a first and last name.
