history

The first documentary mention of Marbach comes from 1378 as Marcbach . The interpretation of the name refers to the border (= Mark) of the rule of the Schellenbergers that used to run in the valley of the Flöha. Marbach was subordinate to this seat and its successor, the Amt Augustusburg , manorial as well as administratively until 1875.
Although in geographical manuals of the 18th century "woodworkers and skilled horn-turner" are mentioned and at the beginning of the 20th century a paper mill, a wood grinding shop and three larger ones are mentioned in addition to goods and a few small wood goods companies existed, Marbach remained dominated by agriculture.
15% of the population worked in agriculture in the 1970s, which cultivated 1,800 hectares of land, including the usable areas of Grünhainichen and Schellenberg. During the same period, 350 registered out- commuters from the village were employed in the companies "VEB cotton spinning and twisting mill" in Hohenfichte , the furniture industry in Leubsdorf and in the more distant towns of Flöha and Zschopau.

On March 1, 1994, the previously independent communities of Hohenfichte, Marbach and Schellenberg joined the community of Leubsdorf under this name.
