Marcel Freeman (born March 30, 1960 in Port Washington , New York ) is a retired American tennis player .

Life

Freeman studied at the University of California at Los Angeles and was voted four times in the top selection All-American . He won the NCAA championship with the team in 1982 . In 1984 he reached the semi-finals at the ATP tournament in Bari , and together with Tim Wilkison he was also in the final of the doubles competition. The following year he won his only double title in Nancy on the side of Rodney Harmon , with Laurie Warder he was also again in the double finals in Bari. In 1986 he won the individual title at the Challenger tournament in Enugu , he was also in the finals of the Challenger tournaments in Lagos and Nairobi , in the latter tournament he was also in the double finals.

In 1987 he had his best individual result on the ATP World Tour with the semi-finals at the Queensland Open . The following year he won the double title of the Challenger tournament in Guadeloupe with David Dowlen . He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1986 with position 46 in singles and 1987 with position 70 in doubles.

In singles, his best result in a Grand Slam tournament was taking part in the third round at the 1986 US Open . In the doubles competition, he was able to reach the third round once in each of the four Grand Slam tournaments.
