Marcelo Chamusca , full name Marcelo Augusto Oliveira Chamusca , (born October 7, 1966 in Salvador (Bahia) ) is a former Brazilian football player . He was used on the position of a defensive midfielder . After his active career he became a football coach , currently he is in charge of the first team of the EC Vitória .
He is the first coach who managed to lead his clubs to promotion to the next division in all national leagues. The 2013 Salgueiro AC in 2013 by the Série D in the Série C 2016 the Guarani FC from the Série C in the Série B and 2017 the Ceará SC of series B in the Series A .
Player career
Marcelo Chamusca came from a family of great football fans of the EC Bahia . So his grandmother was buried on the coffin with a flag of Bahia. His grandfather never missed a club game and it was this influence that the grandson Marcelo and his one year older brother Pericles Chamusca , were not only crazy about sports but were fans of Bahia from childhood. Marcelo Chamusca started in the Bahia youth division in 1979 and was twice U-17 national champion. In 1987 Chamusca made the leap into the professional squad and stayed there until 1988. In the years 87 and 88 he was national champion with Bahia with the professionals.
He then played for Galícia EC, FC Treze and AA Colatina. In 1993 Chamusca decided to end his professional career as he could only play for smaller clubs. He had already thought about working as a coach when he received the invitation in 1993 from the then superintendent of the junior division of EC Vitória , Newton Mota, who considered him a good coach with the appropriate personality to lead players. Chamusca didn't think twice, applied for a contractual withdrawal from Colatina and took over the coaching position after completing an internship.
Coaching career
Junior coach
He remained the coach of the red-black youth until 1998. During that time, Chamusca won five national junior champions and two international titles. During this time he completed an internship at PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands in 1996 . The competence that had shown itself in the five years of his work led to Chamusca receiving a proposal in 1998 to coordinate the junior areas of Sport Recife .
In his role he led the Pernambuco team to titles in the national junior championship and to winning the tournament in Chenoise, Switzerland, in May 1999. In this, the offspring of the Udinese Calcio could be beaten in the final.
In February 2000 it was the turn of EC Bahia to show an interest in Marcelo Chamusca. The new coordinator of the Bobô youth division saw Chamusca as a key player in the sector's restructuring project and appointed him to head the technical team of the junior team. After returning to his home, he was able to celebrate successes in the first year. A particular success was the success at the international youth tournament in Marseille , in which Bahia prevailed against the youngsters of FC Bayern Munich and Olympique Marseille .
During this time Daniel Alves was active in the youth sector at Bahia . At that time he prophesied: "Daniel is a strong candidate to join the national team in the near future."
Self-description as a junior coach
In a 2001 interview, Chamusca described himself as a person who had experienced many things in the world of football and tried to learn from a wide variety of situations. On the other hand, I studied physics for a while and did internships in Europe, which gave me a theoretical basis. As a coach, I try to combine theoretical and practical knowledge. I use more academic language with athletes, but I always try to be close to them at work and learn a little more about their lives so that it doesn't affect professional performance. Sometimes a boy does not show what to expect due to psychological problems outside of the field. Therefore, they need to get to know him, talk to him and, if necessary, turn to the support of the club's multidisciplinary team.
Coach career
Assistant coach
In 2002, Chamusca moved from the Bahian youth division to the professional division, where he initially worked as an assistant coach. After further positions as an assistant or manager, Chamusca accepted an offer from the Clube de Regatas Brasil as head coach in 2004 . After completing the state championship in 2004 Chamusca left the club again. He resumed work as an assistant coach, including various Série A clubs and many years abroad. His longest stint was in Japan at the Ōita Trinita , and he was also in Kuwait and Qatar .
Trainer
In September 2012, Chamusca took another job as head coach at the ECPP Vitória da Conquista . The club oversaw the games in the Bahia State Cup . In November of that year, Chamusca signed a contract with Salgueiro AC as a coach. At the end of the league season, the club achieved promotion from the Série D to the Série C.
On November 25, 2013, Chamusca became a trainer at Fortaleza EC . In 50 games in the 2014 season he achieved 28 wins with Fortaleza , had 19 draws and only suffered three defeats. Overall, the team scored 97 goals out of 42 conceded goals in the season. After the club just missed promotion at the end of the Série C season 2014, he resigned.
For the 2015 season, Chamusca Atlético Goianiense was hired as a coach. The contract with Atlético provided for a term until the end of the year.
He stayed with the club for only two months in 2015. On March 2, 2015, the return of Chamusca to Fortaleza became known. After the club was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Série C 2015, he was sacked. Chamusca was therefore free to sign with a new club for the 2016 season. On December 4, 2015, his engagement as coach of Sampaio Corrêa FC was announced. At the start of the championship round, Chamusca changed his coaching position again. He signed a contract with Guarani FC . In the finals of the Série C lost to the Boa EC , but qualified for the 2017 season for the Série B.
However, Chamusca did not look after Guarani in the league. Shortly after the finals, future league competitor Paysandu SC announced their commitment for 2017. With the club he was able to win the 2017 Pará State Championship. He resigned on June 18, 2017, after the eighth game day of the Série B 2017. He had received an offer from competitor Ceará SC . On June 24, 2017, the 10th matchday of the season , Chamusca was in charge of a league game for the first time. At the time, Ceará was in eleventh place, one ahead of Paysandu with the same number of points and a better goal difference of one goal. At the end of the season, Ceará was third in the table, making it to the Série A in 2018 after the club had to relegate it in 2011 . The start of the 2018 season began successfully for Chamusca with Ceará by winning the state championship. After the start in the Série A was less successful, he was released on June 20, 2018, after the sixth match day. At that time Ceará was on the penultimate place in the table.
On September 2, 2018, he took over the AA Ponte Preta . He became the fourth coach to supervise the team in 2018. After 25 days and five games without a win (two defeats and three draws) Chamusca was released again.
For the 2019 season, EC Vitória returned to his first position as a youth coach , now as head coach. He received a contract until the end of the 2019 season.
