The Church of the Protection and Intercession of Mary ( Serbian : :рква Покрова Пресвете Богородице, Crkva Pokrova Presvete Bogorodice) in Rastuša , a village in the Opština (municipality) Teslić is a Serbian Orthodox Church in Bosnian and Herzegovina .

The church building , built from 1998 to 2010 , is the parish church of the Rastuša parish in the Teslić deanery of the Zvornik - Tuzla eparchy of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The church is consecrated to one of the 12 large Orthodox solemnities of the Protection and Intercession of the Virgin Mary (October 1st / October 14th).

location

The church is located in the village of Rastuša in the Opština Teslić in northern central Bosnia , with around 1,300 inhabitants . The famous Pećina Rastuša cave is located near the village . The place is about 12 km northwest, from the municipality capital Teslić.

The Opština Teslić is located in the Republika Srpska , the predominantly Serbian entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina .

In addition to the new Serbian Orthodox Kondžin Panj cemetery, there are also the following Serbian Orthodox cemeteries in the village: Dakića groblje , Šljivačko grpblje and Kalaura . Ukrinica also has two Serbian Orthodox cemeteries: Gradina and Galamić groblje.

In the hamlet of Rijeka , belonging to the village, in the Kondžin Panj cemetery , there is the Serbian Orthodox chapel of St. Apostles Peter and Paul .

The Jevrem Stanković elementary school is also located in Rastuša . There is a small church fountain in the unfenced churchyard.

The Rastuša parish includes the villages of Ukrinica and Rastuša, with the exception of the Stupa hamlet , which belongs to the Osredak parish in Opština Stanari .

The parish and church registers have been kept since the parish was founded on November 10, 1981, at that time still in socialist Yugoslavia .

The construction of the Church of the Protection and Intercession of the Virgin Mary began on March 10, 1998. On October 13, one day before the patronage feast of the Church of the Protection and Intercession of the Virgin Mary, the foundations of the church were laid by the then Bishop of the Eparchy Zvornik-Tuzla Vasilije (Kačavenda) consecrated. The church building was designed and built according to a design by the architects Semberija-Projekt from the north-eastern city of Bijeljina .

After the completion of the church building in 2010, on October 14th of the same year, the church was inaugurated by the then bishop of the eparchy Zvornik-Tuzla Vasilije (Kačavenda). Hundreds of believers attended the event.

Ktitors (donors) of the church were: Marinko Đukić, Velimir Ilinčić, Zvonko Đekanović, Rade Simaković and Rosa Đukić.

The rectory was built from 1985 to 1991. In 2012 the rectory was completely renovated. The rectory has two floors and its dimensions are 9 × 9.5 m.

The Youth Association of St. Sava of Serbia was founded in 2009. The church-charitable women's organization of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Kolo srpskih sestara , was founded at the beginning of the Bosnian War , which lasted from 1992 to 1995

The current parish priest of the church is Archpriest Nedeljko Prišić .

Style and dimensions

The single - nave cross-domed church with the floor plan of an elongated Greek cross is built in the traditional Serbian-Byzantine style .

The church has a large central round dome over the nave at the intersection of the side arms of the church.

In the traditional manner of the Orthodox church style, the church also has an altar - apse in the east, a conche on the north and south side and a church tower in the west, including three church bells. On the west wall of the church building is the entrance to the church with a small column portal .

The dimensions of the church are 20 x 13.5 m. Only small bricks and reinforced concrete were used to build the church building. The church roof is covered with copper.

The icons, frescoes and the iconostasis

The church has an iconostasis with icons, which is typical for Orthodox churches . The oak iconostasis was carved by Vitomir Marković from the village of Ukrinica . The icons were painted by Petar Bilić from the Serbian capital Belgrade .

The Church of the Protection and Intercession of the Virgin Mary is currently being painted inside by Darko Živković from the central Serbian city ​​of Kragujevac with particularly artistically valuable Byzantine frescoes .
