Visitation of the Virgin Mary (forehead)
The Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary is a Catholic parish church in Stirn , a district of the Bavarian market Pleinfeld in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . It is the oldest building in town. The building is registered under the monument number D-5-77-161-112 as an architectural monument in the Bavarian monument list. The medieval predecessor building of the church is also registered as a ground monument (number: D-5-6831-0181). The postal address is Hauptstraße 21a.
description
The hall church dates from the 11th century. In 1645 it was badly damaged in the Thirty Years' War . It was rebuilt from 1651 to 1652 and burned down again in 1687. A year later, the high altar was commissioned in Eichstätt and the building was restored by master builder Giovanni Battista Camessina according to plans by Eichstätter court architect Jakob Engel . The church tower was raised. The high altar from 1688 shows the figure of the Mother of God with the Christ child by the sculptor Christian Handschuher , on the sides Peter and Paul. The choir tower was a new 1895 choir added. In the years from 1972 to 1976 the church was expanded to its present state according to plans by Franz Kießling. The organ with 2 manuals and pedal has 17 registers . It was built in 1980 by Munich Organ Builders.
