Life
Maria Amalie was the sixth child and the eldest daughter of Elector Friedrich Christian (1722–1763) of Saxony from his marriage to Maria Antonia of Bavaria (1724–1780), daughter of Emperor Charles VII. Marie Amalie was Grand Master of the Order of St. Elizabeth and, after the death of her husband in 1798, became abbess of the St. Anna Monastery in Munich, whose statutes were changed several times during her term of office by her brother-in-law, the Elector and King Maximilian Joseph .
