Maria Thalheim (formerly Thalheim ) is a place with almost 600 inhabitants in the rural community of Fraunberg in the Upper Bavarian district of Erding .

location

The pilgrimage site of Maria Thalheim is located about 12 kilometers northeast of Erding between Fraunberg (3.5 km) and Inning am Holz (4 km). The village is located on the Thalheimer Bach, which drains over the Bachhamer Bach into the Strogen , and thus in the border area between the landscapes of Erdinger Holzland and Erdinger Moos .

Pilgrimage church at the "Maria under the lilac bush". Church with onion dome from the 14th century, choir and nave in the core at the end of the 15th century, probably modified in Baroque style by Hans Kogler in 1670, redesigned by Johann Baptist Lethner in 1736

history

Due to the fertile arable land in the area of the Strogen , the land was settled early on. The town and a noble von Talaheim family were first mentioned in a document in 1048 or 1068. The first ecclesiastical mention of Thallhamb comes in 1315 as a branch of the parish Riding. The pilgrimage church of Maria Thalheim was first mentioned in a document in 1413. The legend reports that a pilgrimage to an image of the Virgin Mary under an elder bush took place in the village. Later a church was to be built on the mountain for the picture. But the venerated image of the Virgin has always returned to the traditional place in the center of the village, where today's church is located.

The political community Thalheim was created by the Bavarian community edict of 1818. It comprised the places Bachham, Berg, Bergham, Eck, Edersberg, Endham, Gigling, Großhündlbach, Großstürzlham, Grün, Hainthal, Hinterbaumberg, Holz, Kemoding, Kleinhündlbach, Kleinstürzlham, Kleinthalheim, (Maria) Thalheim, Oberbierbach, Rappoltskirchen, Unterbierbach and Vorderbaumberg. On July 1, 1974 the voluntary amalgamation of the previously independent municipalities of Fraunberg, Reichenkirchen and Thalheim took place.

Only on August 15, 2000, Thalheim was renamed Maria Thalheim in order to avoid confusion with similarly named places and to emphasize the special importance as a place of pilgrimage.

In 2011, the long-term village renewal in Maria Thalheim was completed. In particular, the village square and the village barracks were renewed and a drinking fountain was built for the pilgrims. The measures had already been initiated in the 1990s.

Attractions

  • Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary : The church building, which has been rebuilt and expanded several times, was originally built in the late 15th century in the late Gothic style, but the splendid interior is a creation of the Rococo era. The pilgrimage picture is a late Gothic Madonna with baby Jesus . Today the church is a place of pilgrimage for pilgrims from all over Bavaria . Around Pentecost , up to 5 groups of pilgrims come on some days, each with around 100 believers.
  • Michaelikapelle: The former cemetery chapel of Maria Thalheim is right next to the pilgrimage church. It was built in the late Gothic style at the beginning of the 16th century, and a roof turret with an onion hood was added in the Baroque period .
  • Well house: In the octagonal building right next to the pilgrimage church, a drinking fountain was formerly housed for the pilgrims. This was removed in 1966 because the new war memorial was housed in the fountain house . In 2011 - financed by the local fruit and horticultural association - a drinking fountain could be built elsewhere.

Infrastructure

One of the municipality's two primary schools is located in Maria Thalheim. Maria Thalheim also has a volunteer fire brigade and the Catholic pilgrimage church of the Assumption of Mary , which is also the main church of the Maria Thalheim parish curate. As a complementary offer for pilgrims, there is the 8.2 kilometer long Marienweg , a signposted “spiritual hiking trail ” on the hills around the village.
