Maria Waser

Maria Waser (born October 15, 1878 in Herzogenbuchsee / Canton of Bern as Maria Krebs ; † January 19, 1939 in Zollikon / Canton of Zurich ) was a Swiss writer .

Life

Maria Krebs was the daughter of the country doctor Walther Krebs. After attending a high school in Bern , she studied history and literature at the universities in Lausanne and Bern from 1897 to 1901 . 1902 doctorate it in Bern with a dissertation on late medieval Swiss history for Doctor of Philosophy . A study visit to Italy followed .

In 1905 she married the classical archaeologist Otto Waser , who became a professor at the University of Zurich in 1915. She started a family with him and lived in Zollikon . Both belonged to the editorial team of the art and culture magazine Die Schweiz from 1904 and until 1919 and exerted a significant influence on Swiss literature of the time. B. by promoting young authors such as Albin Zollinger and Robert Walser . The couple traveled to France, England, Germany, Greece (1923) and Italy; they had two sons.

Maria Waser's work consists of novels , stories , biographies and poems , the most successful work was The Story of Anna Waser . In 1938 she received the Literature Prize of the City of Zurich , her second home.
