Marie Pachler
Marie Leopoldine Pachler-Koschak (also Maria Pachler , born February 2, 1794 in Graz , † April 10, 1855 ibid) was an Austrian musician , composer and salonnière .
Life
Pachler was born the daughter of the lawyer Aldobrand Koschak (1759-1813) and Therese nee Ruard. Musicians, artists and other personalities were often guests in their house. She received a good musical and literary education early on, for which Julius Franz Borgias Schneller was particularly responsible. As a child prodigy called, she has performed as a child when her father organized by concerts. She presented her first compositions at the age of nine. These were played by the regimental bands in Graz as well as at father's house balls. When the family lost a large part of their fortune due to the national bankruptcy in 1811 , she was supposed to become a professional musician. After her mother intervened, she did not take this route.
Pachler married the lawyer and brewery owner Karl Pachler (1789–1850) in 1816 . In 1817 she met Ludwig van Beethoven , with whom she later maintained a letter contact. The Pachler couple ran a salon until around 1830 , in which, among others, Anton Halm , Anselm Hüttenbrenner , Karl Gottfried von Leitner , Anton Prokesch von Osten , Julius Franz Borgias Schneller, Julie Gley , Karl Rettich and Franz Schubert were guests. It was considered the center of the educated bourgeoisie in Graz.
On the mediation of Johann Baptist Jenger , Schubert stayed at the Pachler family in 1827. At Marie Pachler's suggestion, he set Heimliches Lieben (D 922), An Old Scottish Ballad (D 923), Das Weinen (D 926) and Before My Cradle (D 927) to music. He dedicated it to Marie Pachler. He also composed the Kindermarsch (D 928) for Karl Pachler's name day, which was premiered by Marie and the son of the married couple Faust Pachler in 1827.
Pachler and her husband adopted Friedrich Kaltenegger von Riedhorst in 1835 , who grew up with their biological son Faust.
Honors
Pachler was an honorary member of the Styrian Music Association and, from October 15, 1817, of the Laibach Philharmonic Society. In addition, the “Pachlerweg” in Graz is named after her.
