Faust Pachler
Faust Pachler (also Faustus Pachler ; pseudonyms : C. Paul and C. Faust ; * December 18, 1819 in Graz , † September 5, 1891 ibid) was an Austrian poet and librarian .
Life
Pachler was the son of the lawyer and brewery owner Karl Pachler and the pianist Marie Pachler-Koschak . Pachler was personally acquainted with Ludwig van Beethoven . In addition, various personalities from art and culture frequented the Pachler house, including Karl Gottfried von Leitner , Anton Prokesch von Osten , Julius Franz Borgias Schneller , Julie Gley , Karl Rettich and Franz Schubert . He received piano lessons from his mother, wrote his first drama Johann von Castilien at the age of seven and developed a great interest in the theater. In 1829, when he went to Latin school , he wrote the play Count Theodor . During this time the family had also taken in Friedrich Kaltenegger von Riedhorst as a foster son. Pachler took in 1837 at the request of his father to study law at the University of Graz and completed this in 1844 at the University of Vienna with the promotion of Dr. iur.
Pachler came to Vienna in 1839 through the Rettich couple. There he met Ferdinand Wolf , who got him a job at the imperial court library in 1843 . He was busy with cataloging work there from 1848 to 1883, at the end of his career he was the custodian of the library. Together with Ernst Birk , Eduard von Sacken and Joseph Müller, he saved the court library on October 31, 1848 by carrying out life-threatening extinguishing work. In 1850 he and Ignaz Pabsch took over the management of the Illustrirten Familienbuch of the Austrian Lloyd , which under her management was able to increase its number of subscriptions significantly. At the court library he became acquainted with Eligius Franz Joseph Freiherr von Münch-Bellinghausen called Friedrich Halm . After his death he worked on the estate. In 1889 he was a Councilor retired. He retired to the family seat "Panoramahof" in Graz.
From 1851 Pachler was married to Jenny zur Helle, whom he had met in the house of the Radich couple. The marriage remained childless. He was buried in the St. Leonhards cemetery in Graz .
Pachler's estate is partially kept in the Graz University Library as well as in the manuscript collection of the Styrian State Library and in the manuscript collection of the Vienna Library.
