Marie Waldburg

Marie Countess von Waldburg (born February 19, 1948 in Wolfegg ) is a German journalist and society columnist .

Life and work

Marie Waldburg - actually Maria Sidonia Countess von Waldburg zu Wolfegg and Waldsee - is the sixth of seven children of the art historian Johannes Graf von Waldburg zu Wolfegg and Waldsee (1904–1966) and his wife Franziska nee. Countess of Ledebur-Wicheln (1913–2002). She has a twin sister named Elisabeth Countess von Kageneck. Her father died when she was eighteen years old. After attending elementary school in Kißlegg , she graduated from high school in the boarding school of Kloster Wald in 1966 .

After finishing school, she worked for a year at the German embassy in Rawalpindi ( Pakistan ). After another year as an interpreter in Paris , Waldburg began studying French and Italian, first in Heidelberg , then in Munich .

After three semesters of communication studies , German and Romance studies , he was accepted into the 13th teaching department at the German School of Journalism in Munich. During his studies, Waldburg completed various internships, including at Südfunk in Stuttgart in the sports department and at Bild München in the local and sports departments.

In 1976, Waldburg started working for the Münchner Abendzeitung , initially as a trainee , then after a year as a permanent editor. After Michael Graeter left in 1983, Waldburg took over the social column of the evening newspaper. She was in charge of this until 1999, when she switched to Illustrierte Bunte in the same position , where she was head of the Society column until 2016. Every year Waldburg took part in the most important social events around the world, from the awards of the Golden Globes and the Oscars in Los Angeles to the Film Festival in Cannes and Venice to the Rose Ball in Monte Carlo and the Salzburg Festival .

After working as a columnist, Waldburg works as a book author and continues to appear as a co-presenter on television, including for “ZDF Royal” at weddings in European royal houses.

Marie Waldburg has been married to Benedikt Freiherr von Perfall (* 1947), mother of two children, who were born in 1982 and 1985, and lives in Munich since 1981 .

Helmut Dietl wrote a guest appearance for Marie Waldburg in the script of his hit series Kir Royal about Munich society in the 1980s. In the episode "Mother's Day" she appears as a guest at a party in Munich's Bavaria .
