Marienkirche (Sallmannshausen)

The lower area of the choir tower dates back to the beginning of the 16th century. In 1717 the nave was lengthened and given a half-hip roof. A chronogram on the south wall of the choir contains the year 1717 three times in Roman numerals. The slate-roofed choir tower is initially square, then merges into an eight-sided dome on which an open lantern sits, which ends in a tower ball . The choir is located on the ground floor of the choir tower and is spanned by a ribbed vault.
Around 1760 the parapets of the galleries in the nave were painted with a portrait of King David and the half-length figures of the apostles . Four large paintings on the wooden barrel vault date from the same period . They show the Annunciation , the birth of Jesus , the adoration of the kings and the baptism of Jesus . The pulpit altar from the 18th century stands on two wooden pillars . An ogival sacraments house is cordoned off by an old gate . There is also a piscina . On the north wall of the choir is a carved reredos , which was created around 1500. In the shrine of the triptych a is crescent Madonna shown. It is flanked by two holy bishops. In the wings, the apostles stand in two rows one above the other as a relief . Images of saints can be seen on the outside . Until the 20th century, the altar hung high above the triumphal arch , the upper corners were sawn off. The organ with 13 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built in 1857 by Johann Michael Holland .
