Mario Frick (born May 8, 1965 in Chur ) is a Liechtenstein politician and lawyer . From 1993 to 2001 he was head of government of Liechtenstein .

biography

Mario Frick, one of six children of the Trustee Kuno Frick, studied 1985-1989 jurisprudence in St. Gallen and received his doctorate in 1991 for Dr. iur. He then worked in the legal service of the Liechtenstein government until 1993 and was also a member of the Balzers municipal council . In May 1993 Frick became deputy head of government.

Frick succeeded the resigned Markus Büchel as head of government on December 15, 1993, after the Fatherland Union had become the strongest political force in the state elections in October . At the time of his election, he was the youngest head of government in the world at the age of 28 . Under Frick, the Principality of Liechtenstein joined the European Economic Area in 1995 . In addition, during his reign there were liberalizations in the telecommunications sector, and in 1998 the Liechtenstein network became independent of the Swiss network. After the Patriotic Union was able to defend its absolute majority in 1997 , it lost the election in February 2001 . Frick remained in office until April 5, 2001 and was replaced by Otmar Hasler ( Progressive Citizens' Party ). He has been running his own law firm with two partners since 2002 and is the managing director of a trust company. Since 2008 he has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bank Frick in Balzers.

Mario Frick was President of the Liechtenstein Bar Association from 2005 to 2014 . He has been married since 1992 and has three children.
