Mariusz Jurasik (born May 4, 1976 in Żagań ) is a Polish handball player who played for the Rhein-Neckar Löwen in the 1st handball league from 2003 to 2009 . He was also a player in the Polish national handball team .

Athletic career

The beginnings in Poland

The 1.92 meter tall left-hander grew up in Żagań , Poland and only started playing handball at the age of 15. He had previously played football (as a right-footed player) and was also a decent javelin thrower . On his first appearance in the youth team of the WKS Sobieski Żagań, when he asked about the rules and tactics in handball, his coach gave him the succinct answer: "You only have to score goals." The final score of this game was 22-2, and Mariusz had 16 Hit contributed.

In the 1995/96 season he was Żagań top scorer in the third division. Then he was invited to a trial training session by the Polish master Iskra Ceresit Kielce . With Kielce , where he also met Karol Bielecki , he became two times champion and one time cup winner.

In 2001 he moved to Wisła Płock , where he was used first on the right wing, then later in the right back area. With Płock he was once champion and once cup winner and scored 395 goals in 56 league games.

Career in Germany

In 2003 he switched to the Rhein-Neckar Löwen (then still SG Kronau / Östringen), who had just been promoted to the Bundesliga , who were urgently looking for an adequate replacement for the striker Christian Zeitz , who had switched to THW Kiel .

In the 2003/04 season he was fifth on the Bundesliga scorers list with 200 goals (64 of them seven meters). Two years later, in 2005/06, he finished third with 260/60 hits behind Guðjón Valur Sigurðsson ( VfL Gummersbach , 263/70) and Andrej Kurtschau ( 1. SV Concordia Delitzsch , 262/91).

Mariusz Jurasik wore jersey number 13 for the Rhein-Neckar Löwen and mostly played on the right backcourt , in the second half of the 2007/08 season he was also often used on the right winger. He scored his 1000th league goal for the Rhein-Neckar Löwen on September 17, 2008 in the home game against TBV Lemgo . After the end of the 2008/09 season he is the undisputed number one on the club's internal goalscorer list with 1185 goals (245 of them seven meters) ahead of Uwe Gensheimer (752/126). He also tops the list by missions with 188 league games ahead of Uwe Gensheimer (159).

In his last season with the Rhein-Neckar Löwen , Mariusz Jurasik became the most successful field scorer in the handball Bundesliga with 177 goals ahead of Momir Ilić ( VfL Gummersbach , 171 goals) and Savas Karipidis ( MT Melsungen , 166 goals) .

Return to Poland

From 2009 to 2012 he was under contract with KS Vive Kielce . Then he was to take over the office of youth coordinator at Vive Kielce. However, he accepted an engagement with the Qatari club el-Jaish , which he left after disagreements in November 2012 and joined Górnik Zabrze . With Zabrze he reached the round of 16 in the EHF Challenge Cup 2013/14 .

National team

In the Polish national handball team , he mostly played on the right winger , for example at the 2007 World Cup, where he was chosen as the “best right winger” in the All-Star team. He originally ended his national team career after the 2009 World Cup. In January 2010 he announced his comeback and took part in the European Championship taking place in Austria .
