Mark Murphy (born August 6, 1976 in Duxbury , Massachusetts ) is an American ice hockey player who was last under contract with the DEG Metro Stars from the German Ice Hockey League .

Career

Murphy began his career in 1995 in the team of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute , with which he played in the US college league ECAC hockey . The right-shooter was able to improve continuously and was one of the players with the highest points on the team in his final year of study. He scored 41 scorer points in 37 games. During the NHL Entry Draft 1995 he was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the eighth round at a total of 197th position. Murphy then finished his studies and moved in the summer of 1999 to the American Hockey League , to the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins , the farm team of the Pittsburgh Penguins . There he could not assert himself, however, and was often used in the East Coast Hockey League during the season . Finally, he joined the Philadelphia Phantoms at the end of the season , for which he was used in two play-off games.

AHL All-Star Classic 2001

In the following years he moved as a free agent to the Washington Capitals , who used him exclusively in their farm team, the Portland Pirates. Despite good performances, which he showed with the Pirates, he never got the chance to prove himself in the NHL . In total, he wore the Pirates' jersey 214 times and scored 172 points. After another three-year engagement with the Philadelphia Phantoms, he left the club during the 2005/06 season and signed a contract with Helsingfors IFK from the highest Finnish ice hockey league , the SM-liiga . There he only played 21 games and shortly before the end he moved to the Swiss National League A for HC Friborg-Gottéron , where he finally ended the current season.

There those responsible for the Augsburg Panthers became aware of the then 30-year-old and transferred him to the German Ice Hockey League. With the Panthers, he immediately belonged to the regular squad and was one of the top performers. In his first year in Augsburg he scored 24 points in 28 games. He also held the captaincy of the AEV. Mark Murphy had a contract with the Augsburger Panthers until 2009. After the season the striker moved to the DEG Metro Stars , with whom he signed a two-year contract.
